About The Artist

I am a sculptor, predominantly working in stone and metal, but I also paint and draw when the need arises. When working with stone I make figurative pieces, human or animal and I tend to let the stone lead the way. What I mean is I draw the inspiration from the particular lump of rock and in a sense release the image I can see within it.

Working with metal is very different, as I have a more deliberate and focused approach. It also lends itself well to making larger structures and allows me to develop more ambitious ideas for outdoor or garden sculptures.

I am known to almost everybody as Jericho because lots of people find my real name difficult to pronounce. As of 1st January 2006, I became a full-time artist. For the most part of my career I have been working mostly to commissions as well as working steadily to complete a body of work that I can show.

So, if you are thinking of commissioning a sculpture for a garden (or other outdoors or indoors space) please feel free to contact me to discuss any aspect of the process.

Chronology

I was born in Subotica (former Yugoslavia) in 1970 and started practising art there at an early age. It was only after I emigrated to Britain and after completing my art degree that I became a professional artist (BA Fine Art, First Class Honours Degree). I am also known as Jericho – a name given to me by my wife and now adopted as an alias.

My portfolio consists not only of sculptures and three dimensional works, but also paintings and drawings. I love working in stone and metal, but I've also worked with cold casting and wood. I have had a number of commissions for paintings and sculptures, both abstract and figurative, for corporate clients and individuals.

I was a member, for two years, of 2 by 4 Artists Artists group in Horsham and took part in 2 group exhibitions in 2005.

I organised a venue and showed work, with two other artists, at the Artists and Makers Festival Open Houses and Studios in Horsham in July 2006. I also had a solo exhibition at Roffey Park Institute, Horsham in 2008.

About The Artist

I have been painting in watercolour now for about twenty years. Most of what I have learned has been through observation and tuition at workshops, and through art clubs. I live now in St.Johns Village, not far from the Basingstoke canal, which in itself is an inspiration, offering up endless subjects changing throughout the year.

This gallery is a showcase of some of my watercolour paintings. For a full set see my website. Some of them are recent, and some are not so, but just retained because I like them. Some of them were sold long ago, others are still available. Waterways are a constant favourite, either local or from my travels. There is nothing quite like watercolour for depicting water. However, the gallery does show quite a mix of subjects, and as you can see, elephants have fascinated me for some time.

Watercolour is my chosen medium. It can be infuriating, but rewarding when successful. I have come a long way with it, but there is always more to do, so am unlikely to change to another medium. Occasionally I add some ink for a particular effect, otherwise I depend on the purity of watercolour.

Painting is for me a pleasure, and exhibiting is part of the experience. I usually exhibit locally four or five times a year, with regular venues in Guildford and Pirbright.

Sales enquiries are are gladly received. I don't as yet produce prints, maybe I will one day, but so far have only sold originals. I have sent pictures all over the globe, and can go into detail if you want to enquire about any particular painting. At the time of writing this, the paintings which I have sold are widely distributed not only across the UK, but also hang in collections in France, Eire, Spain, Italy, Greece, Holland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

I am always very pleased to receive commissions.

About The Artist

Audrey relocated from Surrey to West Sussex in 2012. She had been a regular member of the Byfleet Art Group in Surrey since it was founded in 1968 and was the Group's Chairman and Programme Secretary for a number of years. On leaving, she was made Honorary Life President of Byfleet Art Group and awarded the Noel Haring Trophy in recognition of her work.

Audrey is mainly a self-taught artist, receiving great encouragement from Art Group Tutors and Adult Education classes, where an Art 'A' Level was achieved as a mature student.

A love of flowers and nature make these favourite subjects for Audrey to paint, mainly in watercolours, but she also paints landscapes, seascapes and birds, in various media. Having mastered the art of painting on silk, she enjoys producing paintings on silk and also designing and painting silk scarves.

About The Artist

Sheila Martin has been painting avidly for 12 years. She retired from being a chef 6 years ago and had been working in offices previously. Sheila lived in Kelvedon in Braintree Essex and attended various art classes and progressed from there, before recently moving to St Leonards on Sea, East Sussex.

Art is all about emotion, feeling and giving to others. It is such a wonderful thing to do to start from scratch and build up a painting for people to enjoy. So Sheila never did art for a living prior to retirement, but has been able to recently enjoy success and build a reputation to be able to hold solo exhibitions.

She likes to paint in all types of media, she uses pebeo golds and silvers, glitter and masking fluid. When she went to school there were never all these wonderful art colours and medias to hand. Flowers and forests are her main works.

Sheila Martin - Sussex Artist at Stoke Mandeville Hospital
Please enjoy Sheila's art and if you would like one, she would only be delighted to paint for you or to teach you her techniques.

Art Groups

I belong to the Battle Art Group (East Sussex) and have had 2 solo exhibitions this year.
Member of Colchester Art Society, Essex.

Art Tuition For Children

I am now doing demonstrations in Hobbycraft in Chelmsford, Essex. I have done 4 now. The children come up and help me paint.

I have a CRB and would like to take them for 2 to 3 hours on a lesson. I feel that what I do helps the brain to focus and stops boredom by painting pictures. I have been commissioned work by various people over the last 2 years
