About The Artist

Audrey relocated from Surrey to West Sussex in 2012. She had been a regular member of the Byfleet Art Group in Surrey since it was founded in 1968 and was the Group's Chairman and Programme Secretary for a number of years. On leaving, she was made Honorary Life President of Byfleet Art Group and awarded the Noel Haring Trophy in recognition of her work.

Audrey is mainly a self-taught artist, receiving great encouragement from Art Group Tutors and Adult Education classes, where an Art 'A' Level was achieved as a mature student.

A love of flowers and nature make these favourite subjects for Audrey to paint, mainly in watercolours, but she also paints landscapes, seascapes and birds, in various media. Having mastered the art of painting on silk, she enjoys producing paintings on silk and also designing and painting silk scarves.

About The Artist

For many years, I have lost myself in the stillness of painting. Nature and its beauty never cease to capture my imagination, taking it onto a canvas, paper or even glass, where it is immortalized.

Some years ago, I discovered Glass Painting as a medium. Using 3D frames, I paint a tree, a rainbow, a flower onto the glass and set it in its own watercolour landscape – a background of a sunset, forest, beach or mountain. The effect is one of virtual reality and yet an escape from reality.

I also paint glass, mirrors, vases or candle holders – anything in glass can be personalized for special occasions and gifts.

Art Group / Exhibitions

I have always painted, attending various Art Classes, exhibiting and selling work locally in Brighton, even Sweden, when I lived there. Nowadays, I am more motivated to paint alone surrounded by my garden or I draw much inspiration from my travels abroad.

About The Artist

Emma was born in 1975 in Reading, Berkshire – a bustling town between the River Thames and River Kennet. Having always shown a great passion for art, Emma was encouraged to pursue this direction by her art tutor and family from an early age. Following her Foundation Course in Art/Design in 1995, she then furthered her studies in Fine Art Painting at Brighton University in 1998, where she gained a degree in the subject. Her end of year show proved a huge success and many of her paintings were sold.

Emma met her now husband Andrew, on the final day of her degree course in Brighton and has remained in Sussex with her two children ever since – finally settling in Worthing, West Sussex.

Emma’s paintings have, more recently, become more about the paint, texture and colour – she is an artist who enjoys exploring the medium and seeing where it takes her. The outcome of the piece shows its history of progress, revealing hidden layers below and new narratives. The result – ‘visual poems’ that intrigue the imagination and a rich layering of sumptuous colours. Concerned with a more ‘organic’ approach, the outcome grows with the physical act of painting.

Quite often, Emma will take a shape as inspiration, usually shapes we see every day in nature – leaves, flowers, stems, birds, butterflies and use this as a starting point, adding to it her imagination, so that a sense of balance and harmony can be found in the piece – resulting in a painting with a heightened depiction of what the subject really is.

About The Artist

I'm a Pastel Landscape Artist based in Ashdown Forest (between East Grinstead and Uckfield) in East Sussex. I specialise in views of Ashdown Forest and the wider Sussex countryside and have been producing art and picture framing, for the last 20 years.

Despite my Yorkshire roots (and occasional Northern outbursts), I have now lived in Nutley in the picturesque Ashdown Forest for the last 27 years – still not quite a local!

Ashdown Forest has always been special to me and I strongly suspect I would not have been an artist at all if it wasn’t for the inspiring subject matter right on my doorstep. Even on the gloomiest of days, there is artistic treasure out there waiting to be discovered.

Art is a pursuit I never expected to follow. I had previously trained as a bilingual secretary and worked in the power, marine and construction industries.

It all began on a February day in 1991 with an impulse buy of equipment and stock from a retiring picture framer. In search of customers, I joined a local art class run by Royal Academy - trained tutor, Geoffrey Colbourne. I soon realised there was a market for my work…

The next few years saw the business developing. Customer numbers increased and links were formed with the National Trust at Standen where I staged solo exhibitions and tutored day workshops. My range of limited edition prints and cards grew and I invested in the equipment to produce my own giclee images. I became interested in both the conservation and tourism side of Ashdown Forest and its villages, working with Elite Hotels (Ashdown Park), High Weald AONB Unit and local tourist attractions.

I joined the Ashdown Forest Tourism Association (AFTA) and Tourism South East. Being filmed for ITV's "Tales from the Country" with Selina Scott was exciting and I have also appeared on various public information films. I am reliably informed that my work has found its way to all corners of the globe and at last count I have sold over five hundred original paintings and several thousand prints.

My business, Cogcraft in Nutley, is my usual centre of operations and every available space has been commandeered. My passion for conservation also runs into the arts and I buy and sell antique prints, often rescuing them from unstable framing and acid-laden backboards. Visitors are most welcome and there is generally a pastel on my easel, but a phone call is very much appreciated. Please contact me to arrange a viewing.

Cogcraft Concepts can be found at: Forest Bank Farm, Clockhouse Lane, Nutley, East Susex, TN22 3NZ
It's just off the A22 between Uckfield and East Grinstead, Ashdown Forest.
