Landscapes, Portraits, Murals and Miniatures in Acrylics and Oils
I moved to Sussex 1981 and decided to stay. I love being beside the sea.
I have no formal training, but have painted and sketched from an early age, inspired by my late mum. I have recently given up work to concentrate on what I love; my art and my puppy.
I sold my first painting when I was 18 which was a Berber tribesman to a lady in Zambia. I have sold quite a few paintings since 1978, from miniatures, to a stage backdrop. I paint mostly in oil or acrylic and will attempt any subject, although I enjoy doing portraits and pet portraits.

Giclée Prints and Greetings Cards
A Covid lockdown refinding of my love of painting inspired me to paint local scenery to hang up in the home I shared with my partner. I then explored painting garden birds and their amazing colours and patterns. Both became a great mental release from the stresses of teaching online and in person.
During maternity leave, I picked up my paint brushes again and found myself painting more local iconic scenes and garden birds.
My paintings are bright and bold with big brush strokes, though my skills are ever-evolving the more I paint.
My new painting and card, ‘Remembrance’. Framed 12" x 12" Acrylic on Canvas. 25% of the purchase price will be donated to The Royal British Legion. Cards are £3 each and £1 from every card will also be donated to the Charity. Please contact me for details.

Renate Wilbraham
Textile and Stitch Artist
I am a Sussex-based stitch artist with a farm-based studio on the
Sussex and
Surrey border.
Mark making with thread has been fundamental to my art since my teenage years. Both free machine and hand embroidery are central to my work. Colour, and the lack of it, play vital roles. My machine embroidery is often monochromatic; I am very drawn to the black line of cotton thread on plain canvas although at times, if the subject matter calls for it, I will introduce colour. On the other hand, my hand embroidery explodes with colour and texture.
I am inspired by the wider environment and of that around me; from the back garden, local surroundings, photographs and images from around the world. A City and Guilds embroidery course led to Reigate School of Art and Fine Art courses, still using my embroidery skills.
Art Groups / Exhibitions
I was invited to join the ShedArt artist cooperative and have been a member ever since, exhibiting in many venues throughout Surrey and Sussex. Being amongst many painters, I have been enticed by the medium and found it to be a pleasant alternative.
I am also a member of an East Grinstead-based art group, Example, which has undertaken two Arts Council funded exhibitions within the local community.
